A dictatorial governor, 135 “fertile minds” working overtime and 20% of Arkansas children under 5 at risk of going hungry?

Headline:  Fort Smith Times Record: “Children at risk of hunger”, May 8, 2009.

I responded to an editorial “Capitol Buzz” appearing in the May issue of Rural Arkansas by Carmie Henry, who is apparently Vice President Governmental Affairs for Arkansas Electric Coops.  Carmie’s comments centered around Gov. Mike Beebe.  Carmie wrote that one solon in this year’s legislative session stated “that he didn’t know why legislators needed to come to the Capitol at all”. “His suggestion was that Gov. Beebe could just send his agenda to legislator’s homes and they could vote via the Internet”.

Carmie spun that comment to be a salute to Beebe. I disagree, a precise definition of a dictator.  Carmie goes on to say Beebe is “scary smart” and that Beebe and Harriman are masters at crashing legislation that the two do not want.

Silly me, for decades I have held the misguided belief that the legislature and the Governor were co-equals.

Carmie responded to my written critique by emphasizing that Beebe has spent his adult life as a public servant (ugh) earning influence (yes), working his way up through the state senate, the A.G. and now as governor….and he concluded and I paraphrase, Beebe deserves to be Governor.

Now to the headline:  Children at Risk of Hunger.   Is this allegation true or is it to stir sympathetic emotions of Arkansans for more government expansion?

If in fact the allegation is true as the article stated, that means more than 17% of children in Arkansas could suffer cognitive & developmental damage.

The study also shows that 11 states, Arkansas being one of the 11, more than 20% of children under 5 are at risk of going hungry.

I want to direct a question to the dictatorial governor and the 135 “fertile minds”.  If in fact the hunger allegation is true, why was it not addressed in the just concluded legislative session and furthermore; are there not causal aspects to such a crisis and why were they not discussed?  Governor and the “fertile minds”, has it occurred to you folks that in all likelihood the illegal Mexican and OTM invasion has precipitated these alleged needs, and is it your thought rather than addressing the invasion you will continue to screw the producers by raising taxes and ignoring the illegal Mexican invasion which ultimately brings the social and rule of law tent down irreversibly? In this context I’m reminded of the governor’s statement: “Legal is legal, illegal is illegal, and we’ve got to find out what’s legal”.  (Try 8 USC)

Beebe has bequeathed $857,000 to each senator and $25,000 to each representative for vote getting purposes and influence peddling in the legislature.  These millions are to be spent solely by the legislators and at their discretion. This represents $60 million of citizen taxpayer funds that translates into a second tier of vote buying and influence peddling.

Governor and the “135 fertile minds”, would that $60 million not feed the alleged hungry children and then some? By the way, how could this be true in view of the multitudes of government welfare programs, i.e. Medicaid, Arkids 1 & 2, Food Stamps, WIC, Public school “free” breakfasts & lunches, backpacks with food to go, Food Banks, Shelters, ad infinitum? Incidentally, about a Billion in federal stimulus money is being put into Arkansas Medicaid.  And Governor Beebe wanted to tax milk!

Carmie said it best: “With 135 fertile minds working overtime, Beebe’s historical perspective and diplomatic talents have served Arkansas well”.   Right out of the Communist Manifesto…a failed society in the making.

Carmie’s piece appearing in the Rural Arkansas magazine (May, 2009) was working hard to ensure the Arkansas Electric Coops got “their” share of the government pie.

Kindest regards,

Joe McCutchen

Fort Smith

I would like to wish everyone a late Happy Cinco De Mayo! I am sure everyone who supports this site will appreciate that. I wrote a few months ago in support of the people who come to the United States illegally not in support of the law breaking that happens when they do come hear illegally. But if you were in their position you would do the same thing.

In your reply to my earlier comment you said that all this uproar and all of this nonsense you are writing about is because you believe that THE LAW IS BEING BROCKEN. That ILLEGAL ALIENS are the problem. Not the LEGAL ALIENS that go through the process. Okay. That sounds nice. According to you it is not prejudice, racism or hate. I would love to believe that. Let me ask you a question then.

If the United States Government changed its laws and opened up the borders would you still have this website? I mean if that happened it would not be ILLEGAL for Mexicans, Cubans or any other latinos to enter the country. They would all be hear LEGALLY, Therefore, they would not be breaking any laws. Would you still have a problem with them? Would you still be typing up your hate and intolerance? I think you would.

The way I see it is that most of the people who support your views are people who want an ALL WHITE AMERICA. That will never happen. It used to be okay to hate African-Americans right? The KKK was like a Faternity. It was okay and accepted to hate as long as it was against people of color, jews, homosexuals or anybody who was different. Well the civil rights movement changed everything for all of those hateful Americans who believed they were better than anyone who was darker or different. It became bad to hate Blacks, Gays, and Jews. But those feelings didn't just disappear. Maybe it did for some people because i have met a few Arkansas who admit they used to be prejudice against minorities but as they got older they realized that it was all absurd brainwashing administered by the people who loved them most: their parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents. These people thought they were teaching their children the right way, THE AMERICAN WAY. As it turns out, they were wrong. Now we see it is not right to hate because of race or anyother diffences. So all of that hate had to get redirected toward something. How about the ILLEGALS? Yeah, they're an easy target.

You people might think you are doing right but i assure you that you are not. A fifteen year old boy or girl reading your intolerant posts is not being helped. If anything you are just holding them back. They have to go to school with these illegals. I hope they don't get infected by their laziness or join a gang. Your kid is flunking math, blame it on the illegals because the classes are too full. How about spending some time with your children, exposing them to new things and opening up their minds. Oh wait, that would be inconvienient wouldn't it. I only hope our youth is smarter than the people running this horrible site.

in response to "mike," you totally miss the point, mike. you turned this into racism (SHAME ON YOU) when TRULY it is a great concern for our country and the jobs for our people to make ends meet. SHAME on you for stating it is okay to break our laws of the land and enter our country illegally. stop stating that wrong is right and right is wrong, because it is not! your words are like cancer trying to spread hate & tension where there isn't hate, but only RIGHTEOUS ANGER/CONCERN due to the injustice we Americans see which cannot be denied. i wonder, are you working mike? are you married? do you have children? perhaps if you had a family and all the concerns that come with one you would feel the pinch. are you going to pay for the health care, housing/shelter, the food, pay for the public defenders of the court cases that come up when the law is broken or when an American life is taken because an illegal person drives illegally (as has happened), pay for the insurance, clothing and education of the illegal immigrants? HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO THAT MIKE? admit it, your not, are you? that is why you speak as you do. stop taking this so personal and look at the bigger picture, mike. connect the dots. We cannot afford illegal immigrants - its not a race issue! we want our laws upheld. we the people, do not want illegal immigrants in the USA. we cannot afford them. -jill

            Jill,

You obviously have a very good grasp on the dilemma this country faces.  The idea of forced redistribution is all too common....people like "Mike" never offer solutions to paying for illegal aliens much less offer to do it themselves.  They seem to think life operates in a vacuum and nobody has to pay except the "rich", which is anyone except them.

no matter the level of education, our attackers must be challenged at every opportunity....they give no quarter and neither should we, if we hope to survive as a culture and free individuals.  Our lives & fortunes do not belong to everyone who claims them and it is a tragic day when we succumb to such tyranny.

Thank you for your inciteful comment, and thank you for your interest and concern.
