Lawsuit filed against Arkansas State Police
The purpose of this fax is to alert you to an important news event, of
which you are apparently unaware. A case has been filed against the
Arkansas State Police seeking to enjoin that agency from using taxpayer funds
to publish Driver’s License Manuals and Driver’s License Examinations in
Spanish. The Plaintiff contends that printing these materials in Spanish
violates the English as the official language statute, Ark. Code Ann. Section
1-14-117. The plaintiff also alleges that printing the materials in
Spanish violates Ark. Code Ann. Section 27-16-704 which requires that all
persons taking a drivers license examination must have the ability to read and
understand the highway traffic laws of Arkansas and that the statute violation
Ark. Code Ann. Section 27-16-704 which prohibits issuing a drivers license to
any person who is not lawfully in the United States has been violated.
